Huntsman Hotel in Mormon history village - Utah Tours
Built in 1872 and replicated at This Is The Place Park in 1996, the Huntsman Hotel was one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in the Utah Territory in its day. Many dignitaries stayed in the hotel when passing through central Utah, including Mormon church prophets on their way to southern Utah. The original hotel has 24 rooms, full-length porches, fine dining room, and a barbershop. The Dinwoodey Cabinet and Chair Shop was originally built in Salt Lake City in 1858 and replicated for This Is The Place Heritage Park in 1995. Mormon pioneers weren't able to bring much furniture with them across the Mormon Trail, so skilled woodworkers like Henry Dinwoodey were essential members of pioneer society. These craftsmen learned to adapt their work to the softer woods and different conditions found in Utah. Imitating the styles of the eastern hardwoods with the native white pine, aspen, cottonwood, and box elder timber, they used faux finish to paint and grain their products to look like hardwoods and marble.

Mormon Pioneer School - Salt Lake City Tours
The Heber East Ward School was originally built in 1865 and replicated in 1996 for This Is The Place Heritage Park's pioneer history village. Made of red sandstone from the mountains near Heber, Utah, it was used for both church meetings and for school. In pioneer days, money was scarce, so teachers were often paid in produce, lumber, and other materials. Parents even offered boarding to teachers as a means of paying tuition.

Kennecott Utah Copper Mine - Salt Lake City Tours

Jewkes-Draper Mormon Pioneer Home - Salt Lake City Tours
Samuel Jewkes, an English immigrant to the Mormon church, ran a gristmill and a sawmill in the town of Fountain Green, Utah. His middle class home was built with tine timbers connected with mortise and tendon joints and wooden pegs; the walls insulated with adobe bricks placed between the timbers using lime plaster and whitewash on the surfaces. The exterior was clapboard. Built in the mid-1860's, Jewkes later sold the home to Henry Draper in 1879. This quaint home was relocated in 1980 and now sits in the Mormon pioneer history village at This Is The Place Heritage Park.

Observation Deck - Salt Lake City Tours
Gaze out from the tallest building in Salt Lake City, the Church Office Building at Temple Square. The 28-story building is occupied by administrative support staff for the lay ministry of the LDS church. Completed in 1972, it houses everything from translation of church materials, to production of church films, to regulation of missionary efforts. Visiting hours on the 26th floor are Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The view includes the entire Salt Lake Valley, including the mountain ranges, Utah State Capitol Building, Temple Square and downtown, and even Great Salt Lake.

Mormon Pioneer Cabin on Salt Lake City Tour
This Is The Place Heritage Park features the John Gardiner cabin near the entrance of Deseret Village. Built in Pleasant Grove, Utah, in 1864 and relocated to the park in 1979, the one-room cabin is 13 by 22 feet and was occupied by ten children. The Gardiner family came to Utah in 1864, traveling through Nebraska and Wyoming with the John D. Chase Company.
